Graham my school friend.

Graham and I were best friends throughout our school years, were often at each others houses or out in the countryside around Paignton. We lost touch with each other a few years after we finished school and Graham was away in the army and I was working in London. I had been away from Paignton for 40 years and recently returned to live here again. After I came back I thought I would see if Graham was still living in Paignton so we could meet again. Sadly I was a couple of years too late as I eventually found his name on this site. I have added a photo of a young Graham to the picture gallery as his family may not have many of his youth. I would like to add one story from when he was about 14 years old. We had gone out for a day in Cockington woods when Graham said that he was going to climb to the very top of a tall pine tree. He got threequarters of the way up when a branch broke under his foot and he fell but he managed to throw both arms and legs around the trunk of the tree. He fell all the way down, breaking off every single branch as he did so until he hit the ground sitting on a great pile of pine branches that saved him from injury. That looked so funny although he did not think so as he had quite a number of cuts and grazes. That was typical of Graham, always climbing and getting into scrapes. As a boy he was always a big lad and a great friend. I am sorry I was too late back for us to meet again. Rest in peace old friend. Richard.
